FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


To ensure that you achieve the maximum benefit and enjoyment from this program, the staff of United Drivers Training has prepared this information to answer some of the most frequently asked questions. Should you have any further questions that are not fully answered here, please feel free to contact us, any of the staff will be more than happy to assist you.

1. What kind of insurance discount can I expect after passing the in-class, and in-car program?
Discounts vary among insurance companies; however, our program is approved by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) so graduates will receive the maximum discount available at any insurance company.
2. When do I receive my certificate?
You must pass the two-part program in order to receive the certificate that qualifies the driver for an insurance discount.

  One: In-Class session requires:
            100% attendance, 80% pass, no missed tests, and return of textbooks.
   Two: In-Car session requires:
            Completion of pre-test, 80% pass in final test, completion of all lessons.

3. When can I expect a phone call from my in-car Instructor?
You will receive a phone call from your in-car instructor once you have paid in full.
4. Do I need to practice between driving lessons?
Everyone needs to practice before they can master a new skill. Practice time given by parents or other responsible adults is essential to the student's skill level and confidence. We recommend a minimum of 20 hours of practice over the weeks, not including instructional time with your in-car instructor.
5. Will I be picked up at home for my in-car lessons?
Yes. We appreciate our clients hectic schedules so for your added convenience, you will be picked up at home or school or work and returned home for each in-car lesson. Please be ready to go when the instructor arrives.
6. What if I need to cancel a driving lesson?
Always phone your driving instructor directly to cancel the in-car lesson. Please ask for your instructor's telephone number on the first lesson. We require 24 hours advanced notice of cancellation. You will be charged $20.00 if less than 24 hours notice is given when you or your parent cancels a lesson.
7. What happens when the driving instructor must cancel a lesson?
The in-car instructor is to phone you directly if he/she must cancel a lesson. All attempts will be made to contact you in the event there is a *Last minute cancellation. *Lessons that are cancelled by the instructor, as a result of being delayed at the test centers, are unforeseen and every attempt to keep the scheduled lessons is made.
8. Are driving lessons canceled because of poor weather conditions?
The in-car instructor reserves the right to cancel lessons in some areas. You and your instructor will make plans ahead of time and change them in the event of inclement weather.
9. How many hours "behind the wheel" should I expect in this program?
Our program offers 10 hours behind the wheel given as private lessons or lessons in pairs. The minutes recorded on the time sheet should read "60" for a one hour lesson. You will sign the driving instructor's time sheet at the end of each in-car lesson.
10. Does the Driver Education program include the Road Test?
No. The Ministry of Transportation Road Test is separate from this program; however, arrangements may be made with your in-car instructor for the following services:
A one hour lesson; Booking the G2 test; Use of Instructors car; Pick-up and drop - off.
11. What if I want additional lessons to prepare for the Road Test?
We offer additional lessons at $25.00 per one-hour lesson.
12. What does an applicant for an Ontario Driver's license, holding a foreign driver's license require?
An applicant for an Ontario Driver’s License, who holds a foreign driver’s license, will have to provide further proof to total years of driving experience.
You must go to your consulate or embassy and get an official letter on their letterhead stating that your license is in good standing.; It must Show the following information in order to be accepted:
  • Your family name, given name, middle name
  • Driver’s License number
  • Date of birth
  • Date when license was issued first time
  • Expiry date
  • Class or type of license
This letter is only valid for 6 month from the date of issue. The language on the license must be in either English or French. If not than translation will be required.
