WHAT TO DO IN EVENT OF A COLLISION |
|
No one wants to prepare ahead of time for a collision, because we all assume we will not get into one, neither are we anticipating the situation. Most drivers have full confidence that they will never get into a head-on-collision. However, in truth, even the best of drivers are prone to make mistakes, leading to accidents.
As a precaution, in the event of a more serious collision, you should have the following supplies in your vehicle:
A first aid kit
Cell phone, Flares
A bright orange vest
Disposable Camera
In the event that you are in a collision, the following tips will minimize hazards after accident damage:
- If you are in a moving vehicle and are capable of operating that vehicle, move over to a safe place on the side of the road, mear the point of collision. Shut the vehicle off and turn on your hazard lights.
- Check to see if you and your passengers have been injured. In the event that someone is injured do not move them without taking standard first aid precautions. If you have flares, cones or triangles, place them around the vehicle so that traffic is aware of the accident ahead.
- Call 911 and inform them of any injures.
- Trade information with everyone involved in the accident. Get their name, address, phone number, driver's license number, license plate number, insurance company, the name of the registered owner(s) of vehicle(s), and the vehicle(s) year, make and model.
- Do not discuss the accident with anyone but the police, such comments could be used against you later.
- Report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible.
- Make a written assessment of any personal injury or property damage caused by the accident while you are on the scene.
- If you or your passengers are possibly injured you must visit a doctor immediately. Be sure to keep the receipts of all medical treatment, including medication and keep a record of any losses you maintain as a result of your injury.

- If you get into a skid
Take your foot off the gas. Never hit the brakes, but pump them rapidly. Turn wheels into (not away from) the direction of the rear- end skid.
