TIPS IN CUTTING BACK ON GAS CONSUMPTION
As gas prices reach higher and higher, owners are becoming increasingly worried about their gas bills. The following tips may help you save up to $500 on gas:
- Keep your car tuned. If your vehicle is running poorly, chances are it is waiting for a substantial amount of gas.
- Maintaining a steady and safe speed will improve your gas mileage. Use cruise control whenever possible.
- Be sure tires are inflated properly. You could be loosing 4 percent extra gas for every 5 pounds your tires are under inflated.
- Clean out any unnecessary items from your car. Removal of extra weight will increase your mileage.
- If you are stopped in your vehicle for more than 60 seconds, turn off your engine. It takes more fuel to idle for longer than a minute than for you to restart your engine.
- If you are in need of new tires, replacing your normal tires with radial ones could cut your bill by 2 or 3 percent.
- Use your air conditioner carefully as it significantly reduces your gas mileage.
- Use your air vents instead of open windows for fresh air. Open windows and/or sun roofs increases fuel usage.
- Clean filters and catalytic converter regularly. Dirty filters can increase fuel consumption by as much as 10 percent.
- Replacing your oil every 3,000 miles with premium multi-grade oil will reduce your fuel consumption.
- The best way to save money on gas is to try purchasing vehicles that obtain good gas mileage.

As a precaution, in the event of a more serious collision, you should have the following supplies in your vehicle: A first aid kit, Cell phone, Flares, A bright orange vest and a Disposable Camera.

- What if your brakes fail
Pump your brakes. Coast in low gear, then use your parking brake. If on a hill, sideswipe the bank or head for a shallow ditch if available.
- If you get into a skid
Take your foot off the gas. Never hit the brakes, but pump them rapidly. Turn wheels into (not away from) the direction of the rear- end skid.
